I’m not sure if any off you visit Crummers Lake or Crowmere Lake or Cromers Lake on the top of the hills in Frodsham. Sort of half way between Frodsham and Kingsley.
The Council has recently won a long court battle regard ownership and they have proven themselves to be the owners. At the moment there has been lots of troubles at the lake with so called ‘anglers; getting drunk , setting fires, leaving litter and generally bad behaviour with the Police attending many incidents which mostly happen at night.
The Local Council are welcoming suggestions and such to help them deal with the problems.
I would love to see the Lake still open to the public and I have suggested a number of things that can be done.
Ban night fishing. Between the hours of 10.30 pm and 8.30 am. That would solve the drunken parties at night.
Ban fishing during the spawning season as the lake is hammered by the amount of fishing and the fishing has been awful because it is over fished.
Ban the removal of fish and police the Lake with a ranger. It would appear that some Anglers have been fishing with 10 or more roads, catching specimen carp and selling them at the Polish Markets for food.
I have made other suggestions regard restricting baits and using non barbed hooks etc
Some of my suggestions / proposals
Baits to be banned and other rules that would aid the health of the fish stocks.
No Boilies ( inducement baits for large carp)
No Netting ( No netting for fish, no keep nets)
No Barbed Hooks (Barbed hooks will fall out if a line is snapped – they do not damage the fish)
ONE Rod rule. Fishing is only allowed one person/one rod
No tins allowed on site (helps prevent litter of sweet corn and meat tins being left)
And my major rule proposal. NO fishing before 8 am in the morning and NO fishing past 10.30 pm at night. This would prevent night fishing and help preserve stocks; it would also prevent the all night drinking incidents by so called fishermen.
The EA Rod Licence rule to be enforced. No rod licence – NO FISHING.
No Tipping and No Litter.
Signs to be in place with these rules. Permanent signs under glass (polycarbonate non breakable) and made as vandal proof as possible.
The Lake has good access, but with a little more thought it would be great for disabled fishermen, I have suggested some walk ways and pegs to the council.
I have witnessed one ‘angler’ removing fish in a large white Bedford or Ford transit type van. If anyone see’s this van around the Lake – please try and get the number plate as the EA and the police would be interested in prosecuting the offender/criminal.
I got a call from a councillor thanking me for my ‘efforts’ and document that I submitted and it seems they may be putting forward some of the proposals at the meeting. They would welcome input from anyone who uses or has used the Lake and is concerned about the venue.

It would be nice to see the Lake continue to be a public venue and not given over to a Club and non members not allowed to fish. For years the place survived fine. It’s the advent of Carp being worth money to the Polish for food and all night drinking ‘raves’ that have changed the scene. I doubt if the genuine anglers have been the ones vandalising the area and leaving litter.
Incidents such as the removal of fish, fish being killed ( thrown in trees, posted through letter boxes, put under cars wheels) must be stopped. It’s a shame but I fear quite a few of the specimen fish have been removed.
So I also suggested the council think about re stocking when they have sorted out the problems.
