complete beginner

Hi lads,i'm new to this sea fishing lark and i want to buy a rod and reel, Can anyone give me some advice and point me in the right direction on a decent rod and reel for a beginner like how big the rod should be, what reel and what braking strain line to use. i'm going to fishthe mersy and the dee esturaies thanks in advance ....paul
