Match Report: NWASAC Allan Marklew Fur & Feather Match, Sun 8.12.13, Seacombe Promenade, Wallasey (33 rods).


This annual festive event now commemorates long time North West Association of Sea Angling Clubs founder and treasurer, Allan Marklew, who died earlier in 2013.
On a fine afternoon, there were plenty of fish feeding over high water, mainly dabs, whiting and small codling- all thirty three anglers caught fish.
The match was too close to call until the final whistle but well known local angler Paul Bonner achieved a narrow victory over Carl Edwards and Gordon Thornes with 20 fish for a measure and release total of 3.28 kg.
The only sizeable codling of the day was landed by John S. Williams, 920 gm specimen to black lug and squid while Andy Jenkins found one of the few flounders at the venue to take the flatfish pool. As is traditional, there were prizes for all who took part.

Gordon Thornes (Connah’s Quay), 318, 12 whiting, 7 dabs, 1 codling.
Phil Simpson (Pensby), 290, 10 whiting, 9 dabs.
Dave Campbell (Higher Bebington), 283, 9 dabs, 9 whiting, 1 codling.
John S. Williams (Prenton), 278, 6 dabs, 3 whiting, 3 codling.

Flatfish pool: A. Jenkins, flounder, 31 cms/ 37 points.
