Nice afternoon on the Douglas

Had some old maggots and casters left over and decided a quick trotting session on the Douglas would be quite nice. The wind was a bit blustery making stick control difficult but I had a nice mixed bag.

A chub about a pound and a half


A rare perch about 2lb

In addition there were loads of small dace and for the first time I had a pike attacking my prize on the way in. I didn't know there was any in there!

A fun afternoon and managed to get in just before the rain started.

Nice.Cracking Perch.Its a place I've always fancied having a go on.

Its a nice venue and it's free, there's even barbel to be had once in a blue moon. There's parking in the station car park and if the river is flooded or fishing carp then Rufford Meadow fishing lake is right next to the car park. Look out for the two sets of power lines about 200m up from the bridge and about 100m apart. You can fish anywhere up to where the feeder stream comes in about half a mile up round the bend. You can also fish further down at Solom but the tidal influence is a bit much for my liking. At rufford just avoid the biggest tides and be prepared to trot in both directions.
