Yet another " What rod "

Post by MojoPete »

Got £100/125 to spend on a rod, been through all the posts and have got it down to......

Daiwa STS12M Supercast 12ft Multiplier
SONIK SK3
Bulldog RL Surf

Any thoughts would be very welcome. Thanks.

Had a Sonik sk3 they look nice rods but snapped the tip first couple days of using it had to take it back ive spoken to people from this site whos soniks have also let them down honestly dont listen to anyone telling you to buy one there a load of carp. I Bought an Abu Garcia Hellbender go for abu garcia the build quality are A++++++ for the price range never had any problems with mine also sliding reel seat so can adjust to your comfort. i am using a abu atlantic 464 which are great and my mate has a abu espirit they are great for the money you should pick one up for about 100 quid and the atlantic is £160 but if you give the fishermens on laird street birkenhead a call in he will do you a good price if you ask for a bit of discount buy a bit of tackle/bait from him.
p.s soniks are made from a graphite material abus are a carbon composite.

Hate to add fuel to the anti-Sonik fire but I had to send my tip section back to Sonik today after sending about 10" out into the Mersey over Christmas... this is the second time in 12 months :( pity really as I really liked the rod but there is obviously something inherently wrong with the blank... oh well, 3rd time lucky - I hope

Hey Pete - if you`re now getting cold feet just remember that under the Distance Selling Regulations you have seven days from receipt of the rod to change your mind and send it back without giving a reason, as long as you haven`t marked it. ;)

My 13ft is an ABU Esprit and I like I`m happy with it, not that I`m an expert tho. But I think there`s more than one version of the Esprit anyway? (Mine was 40 quid 2nd hand off the Chinese lad that used to be on WSF, can`t remember his name).

Oops - Distance Selling Regs. Doesn`t apply to auctions unless it`s a bona fide dealer.

He's a registered business seller, so I have cancelled and gone for the Diawa Supercast.

I'd have lost confidence in that brand by then. :)
