Shimano Ultegra 14001 XTB

I am thinking of buying one of these for fixed spool reels for Xmas - I have spoke to two dealers who have said they are good for beach casting as well as carp fishing- i just wondered if anyone has any experience of these for sea fishing and would be happy to share any comments about them?

With not knowing where you live and fish its hard to pass comment.Always helps to fill in your profile.If the reel is suitable for carp fishing then to my mind its only suitable for light sea fishing.In the long run you would be better buying and learning how to use a multiplier.Modern multipliers are easy to use.Just my 1 Euro's worth.

Wendy, my wife, has an Ultegra 10000 XSA and it's fantastic - well built, cast like a dream. If i were to get a new fixed spool i'd deffo get one, if the XTB is anything like it'll be great.

Amount of bashing these reels get when sea fishing, I dont see the point of going for an ultegra. The Exages are excellent at a lower price entry point and even the models below that are a pleasure to use.

Got 3 ultegras, great reels. get them serviced once a year and will go for a long time. Highly recommended.

I would add ... after buying a shimano fixed spool about 4 years ago, I never now even look at any other makers, i've got reels from 3 different ranges and love them all. Whatever you bought I dont think you would be dissappointed, but mine take a terrible bashing, particularly the exage 4000's I use for wrassin' and pollackin'.

The other brilliant thing about them is that the service centre, Felindre Servicing are excellent.

thanks Graham- now own one- second hand Â£90 but cant use it till after crimbo- house rules etc.Looks great - would you be happy to share the details of the service centre you mentioned please?
