Match Report: 6th round of 2011Personal Members Championship, Sun 17.7.11, Bromborough, Wirral (22 rods).


As we moved into the second half of this 10 match series, the anglers faced a very wet and windy Bromborough; the weather did not relent during the five hours.
Some fair catches were recorded but the statistics alone do not tell the whole story- most fish came in the first hour as the tide crept over the mud.
Joe Perry and John Waugh, local experts from opposite sides of the Mersey and fishing in different zones, were roughly on a par until John landed a magnificent thornback ray of nearly 8lbs on a crab and squid cocktail with five minutes to go (see photo).
This gave the reigning champion his first win of this year’s series, underlining his recent return to form.
The flatfish pool was shared between three anglers with identical length flounders.

1. John Waugh (Wallasey), 352 cms, 4 flounders, 3 eels, 1 whiting, 1 thornback.
2. Joe Perry (Litherland), 250 cms, 4 eels, 1 conger eel.
3. Carl Edwards (Bootle), 258 cms, 5 flounders, 3 eels.
4. Derek Bibby (Crosby), 185 cms, 3 eels, 1 flounder.
5. John S. Williams (Prenton), 216 cms, 3 eels, 2 flounders.
6. James Kelly (Thingwall), 184 cms, 4 flounders, 1 eel, 1 whiting.

Flatfish Pool: = J.S. Williams, James Copland (Tranmere, junior) & Dave Cooper (Prenton), all flounders of 36 cms.
