Hi All.
A date for you to pencil in.
Mersey Pirates are to hold an open match at Otterspool Saturday 22nd of October. Same format as the last ie both flat and round needed to weigh in. This was very popular and anglers have been asking for another.
Entry will be 15 pounds all in with a guaranteed pool of 500 pounds for prizes.
Further details to follow. We will restrict pegs to 100 with a first come allocation.

If all tickets are sold,that means £1500 will be taken.Does that mean £1500 will be paid out in prizes or is it still £500?

Hi Steve.
500 is the minimum, total prize fund will rise with ticket sales, I can't give any firm figures yet. There are expenses, cost us 60 quid last time for a first aider !

Let`s say it`s a sell out....what are the prizes likely to be

IF it's a sell-out I would imagine the prize fund to be over 1000, however, I have only posted this to give plenty of notice. The organizing committee haven't finalized all the details yet ie, zones ? prizes ? raffles ? nominated charity ?
While you are all free to ask questions please bear in mind I don't know the answers and won't know till after our next meeting, first week in July.

UPDATE.

After a meeting with the landlord of the Otterspool pub we have decided to change the date. Finishing late on a Saturday in that area is not a good idea for safety and security reasons.

New date will be August 21st.
Book on 10 till 11am, fishing 12 noon till 5pm.
Entry 15 pounds, this covers 1,2,3rd and pools for heaviest round and flat, also main raffle in aid of McMillan Cancer Research.
To weigh in for main prizes you must have a round AND a flat fish. North West size limits to apply.
Mersey Pirates will guarantee a prize pool of 500 pounds which will rise in proportion to ticket sales.
Postal applications for tickets will be will be arranged and details will follow as soon as possible.

Just some input, would it not be better to fish in October, more chance of fish and more people to attend, August is a pretty slow month in the river ?

Hi Chris.
This is a committee thing, and as such I can't comment. The original date was chosen to suit the tide but meant fishing till 10:30, we were advised that was too late for the venue and there would be a real security risk. Mersey anglers had already arranged an open on the second date we looked at, thus leaving us with the August date. Since the format is to weigh in both a flat and a round it was agreed by the committee that would probably be better than leaving it till the November set of suitable tides.

any update on the above

also eels will not be counted i take it under the present law
last time this event took place it was a fundraiser for mpsac will this now be an organised event with 100% payout
seeing you have a seperate raffle for a charity in place
