How to tie the Bimini Twist knot

I tried to make a short vid to show a different way of tying the Bimini Twist knot. Most videos I found showed how you tie the knot by holding the loop with your knee or legs. I think "my way" would be more convienient for use on the beach etc. You just need to keep the spool side of the line taught.

The Bimini Twist is just a loop knot for the main line to then tie to the leader with whichever knot you want.

If you then tied your shockleader onto the "twist" loop with your favourite knot, wouldn't you have a series of knots and loops to snag any passing poop/weed/sanitary products etc?

An impressive looking loop knot I will admit, but it doesn't appear to be very compact or tidy to use in conjunction with your shocky

My take on these things is,if you snag up on the lead it does'nt matter if you've tied the leader on with the Chubby Checker twist it will still snap at the knot.Its your hooklength thats snagged then you might get the rig back.All the same thats a good bit of work Jon.

It is a bit bulky using 30 lb mono but a bit better with 12 lb:

9 times out of 10 this knot has broken half way along the line before the knot. Seems to be the strongest I can find. But as Mr Duffy says that probably means you loose half a spool of line if you get snagged.

I used it at the match on sunday and it didn't seem to pickup much crud. Don't know how everyone else found it. But it was strong enough to winch in this beast:

Nice one Jon....i`m with Steve in that my knots are very good and unless i`m in the mother of all snags i get some or all of my gear back....sometimes it`s hard enough if you have to pull for a break,so i really don`t think having even stronger knots would be of benefit. Like using 200lb mono for conger fishing...if you get snagged you have to tie your gear to the back of a 4x4 to get it to break

Very good movie there John, one of the best i've seen for the bimini.

The bimini knot is very compact in diameter - it never gets caught - its significantly smaller than an albright for example.

Also the bimini knot is over 100% strength because it is a tied with a double.

It is very good over rough ground when you are not targetting conger because it allows you to rig throughout for rotten bottom, including the snood. Snaggy places like the straits and some mersey marks spring to mind.

As you say though, when targetting conger with 100lb plus snoods you start running the risk of breaking anywhere up your main line - however in these situations you are much better off using a good quality 30lb main line straight through.

Which leader knot do you favour?

I use a knot called " A Grinner ".Its the one were you make a small loop in the leader and pass the mainline through it.You know the one I mean.

I doubt if you can tie a smaller leader knot.Lets compare knots sometime.

The blob knot is the only one that is smaller.

The "Blob" sometimes snaps off,so I don't use it.Never had to use glue on my leader knot.

Ahh right, sure you said you stick a blob of glue on it before. I don't like the blob, only useful for casting field imo.

I totally agree with you there Steve
