DAIWA HPBM(High performance beach 12m)

Hi all.....after a six year or so absence from serious fishing ive finally decided to start again....having sold all my tackle im just starting to buy and have purchased this rod off ebay(dont ask how much....i got carried away as i seem to remember it was a very good rod....)....was it? and is it still? Has anybody had experience of this model?Thanks in advance...Mark

It was a very popular rod in its day and would still stand up to comparison with more recent rods,it would seem a little short at 12' compared to more recent stuff but it has cast well over 200yds on the field and won countless matches.

I still own and use my Daiwa HPB-12MM. It has been a very good rod for me,
with excellent bite detection. Though i mainly use it for estuary/Flounder fishing. The extra finishes on the rod are superb. Its a shame they don't make them like this anymore.

Thanks for replies.....cant wait to get out now! Have bought a TDPK as well(loved this rod years ago) and a 7HT,just need a decent 6500 ct rocket or blue elite and a golds tripod now....then im raring to go....some competition for you all....i can push a fish closer to the camera than anyone! (the bass in my avatar only weighed 12oz.....)

I also have a 7HT and 6500 Sports Rocket. If you are going to get a 6500, go for the mag version. Much more user friendly.

New rod arrived today,in good nick apart from the butt section and tip meeting......dont want to complain as seems a really nice man i bought the rod off...retiring because of age etc....any ideas how to build up spigot?...

Use nail varnish, put it on and leave it to set, then just keep adding layers until you get it right.

Should look like this...

Is your rod whipped on the spigot ends ?. It should be.
Also you can cut SMALL amounts (quarter inch at a time) off the female (tip section) end of the rod. You MUST get a good clean, straight cut, until you get a good fit with an inch (maximum) of the spigot showing. If you do this be sure to re-whip the cut section.

as martin said graphite spray works very well imho ive used it on rod/pole joints just make sure the joint is degreased and spray on a light coating evenly let dry and repeat if needed its about a ÃƒÆ’Ã¢â‚¬Å¡Ãƒâ€šÃ‚Â£5 a tin worth a try before you start cutting your rod up

Thanks to all....think im going to give the graphite spray a go...if that doesnt work...nail varnish...then cutting it final but probably best option...

Shacky...not sure what you mean by whipping on spigot...there is none,any chance you could post a pic?Cheers

Thanks Dave....i know what whipping is...just got hold of the wrong end of the stick and thought Shacky meant whipping on the spigot itself

Whipping is there....and covered in lashings of thick varnish
