Help with rigs from ebay

Hello!

I've been looking at rigs on ebay and they seem a lot cheeper than my local tackle shop.

Can anyone recomend who to buy from or who to avoid??

Look for the ones with "named" hooks, a while back I bought some and the hooks wouldnt peirce a wet paper bag

Better still, tie a few yourself, there's some basic rigs from the main page in the beginners section.

Get some:
50lb mono for the rig length
20lb sunset amnesia snood for the hook length
5mm beads (200 off ebay is a quid)
Soft crimps
80lb rolling swivels
Lead links (the gemini ones seem good)
Few hooks. KAMASAN B940 ABERDEEN or Manta's are a good start
size 2 for a flattie type rigs (3 or 2 hook flapper)
size 1/0 for general
size 3/0 or 4/0 for feeling lucky or pennals

Breakaway bait clips, although mainly used for stream lining when casting (if you can cast well enough for it to make a differance.. which I dont) , I use them on a lot of rigs as I like having the hooks held out of the way when baiting up , especially in the wind.

I tend to use the Palomar knot for everything. tying snoods to swivels before they go on the rig body. Its a really easy knot and reliable.

the uni knot is also worth looking at.

although not used for rig making, the albright knot is worth learning. Makes tying on shockleader a lot easier on the beach and it's quick.

If you can get up to MAC I'm sure the lads would help sort out the stuff above and give you some tips and advice.

Once you start tying your own rigs it becomes a lot cheaper than buying ready made ones. The intial outlay may be £20 or so but it's worth it.

Makes a nice relaxing evening chilling in front TV tying up some rigs

If you buy some to start off with try the greys rigs if you can find them,reasonably priced and good enough quality.
Some of the junk they sell on Fleabay is a joke, there are a few good rigs on there too but you never know what will turn up in the post.

Just bought 10 2 hook flapper rigs for £10.50 will see how good they are!!!

I bought a set of rigs off Ebay last year - 2 hook flappers. The hooks were snapping like twigs. I used 2 and gave the rest away to some kids.

Tieing and catching on your own rigs is part of the satisfaction for me.

One thing that I do find irritating at the moment, and i'm not sure where Macman stands on this - but its not being able to buy terminal tackle items cheaply in bulk from the tackle shops.

Stick stuff in a genie or a mustad packet and the price goes up 100%. I'd like to use the local tackle shop for the stuff like beads, swivels, bait clips, bait shields, but i dont find the prices competitive. If they could be done in bulk then that would readdress the balance I think.

if you need to buy ready made rigs as i did when i started now i spend hours making me own .hate loosing them though try wizzco on ebay he really does supply brand named and top rigs. i just copy them
