Plenty of places to fish near me so me and my little girl popped into the local tackle shop and bought a half pint of mixed maggots for a quid .
Plan was to fish one of the ponds in Heaton Park.It has four of various sizes.The biggest one is the boating lake and although its reasonable for fishing today it was a case of combat fishing.Walked upto the next two actually in the middle of the golf course.The bigger of these two was absolutely full............worst I'd ever seen it.The amount of rubbish strewn there both on the bank and in water was disgusting .So,no way was I fishing there.Tried the long narrow pond next to it and after much searching we found a good spot and climbed down the banking to set up.Next thing,I hear a voice across the water "are you fishing mate? Naturally I say YES.To which he informs me that setting up there would be dangerous as golf balls regularly fall in that area.He suggested a tin hat and full body armour.Well,damn it,I knew I'd forgot to pack that so back up the bank we clambered as I didn't want Jodie to get hit by a stray ball .
So somewhat reluctantly we made our way to the last pond (the top one in the map) and set up there.One other rod there but I never saw him catch.We only stayed for about two hours at this pond.Quite a shallow water and very coloured.
No fish caught so it was a blank.There are fish in there and next time I visit the tackle shop I'll pick his brains.Did notice also that a heron was hanging around for about 20 minutes which might indicate the presence of fish.
Disappointed not to catch but great weather and lovely to be out.Jodie enjoyed it though when we had a little picnic and fed the ducks.Probably give it another go later this week if wife lets me out to play
