Longest Fish Pool - Dave Roberts…..Smooth Hound 79cm
Round 3 saw 9 anglers make the long trek out to the usual mark on the corner of the estuary at Talacre in the search of Smooth Hound in this total length match.
Weather was overcast with a mid range tide so hopes were high however the Hounds were conspicuous by their absence with only 6 of them between 9 anglers.. a few years ago people would have thought that was a daft comment but such are their numbers now the expectation of catching them is so much higher.
Dabs and dogs made up the bulk of the early catches although couple of early Hounds did show up, first cast for Dylan Kensall……….
And this one for Dave Roberts which at 79cm gave him the longest fish pool…………..
Rob Turner also managed to find a Hound to go with a few other fish on his card to put himself in contention……….
The people who started scratching were seeing a steady steam of fish with Gary Swift and Ste Atkinson leading the way in what became a two horse race, however Gary switched to crab on the floor to try and find a hound whilst Ste stayed on the scratching rigs and baits and this proved decisive as no Hound came for Gary whilst Ste kept catching including this double shot of Dabs in the dying embers to seal the win…………..
