Yet again it was tough going for the 9 anglers that turned up to test their metal at Otterspool. The match was fished in front of the playground stretch to avoid a clash with the top 30 final down by the anchor.

Two hours in and the vast majority were still blanking with the odd pin whiting coming up over the rail.

The star of the show was Ava Kensall who showed her Dad and the rest of the lads how it was done with a cracking Flounder...……………..



And then followed it up with a Codling...………………



Despite the tide slowing towards the top of the tide the fish never switched on and it was a scratch to the death with Gary Swift finding 92cm to take the win on a tough day at the office.

Well done for sticking it out. I just got so hacked off with the amount of foot traffic, scooters, cyclists and dogs off leads etc I packed in halfway through. My hatred of promenade fishing is getting worse

from what I hear from some anglers is that they would much prefer the biggest flat n round format for all matches ,as it gives everyone a chance of getting in the frame right up to the last cast,especially any boys n girls who would be trying match fishing for the first time....at the end of the day no-one wants to be pools fodder

I've never seen so many people on that prom, thousands, it was rammed all day and made fishing difficult

I guess the debate on flat/round vs total length will continue - personally i enjoy both formats but as Richie said, prom fishing is becoming uncomfortable

And then the debate about measurement of Rays from nose to tail, which has also been discussed at the matches. I'm for that

Regardless, i very much enjoy fishing with this group and if i had a choice, would fish with this group rather than any matches. The banter is good, share rigs, tackle and information. And find me somewhere else where top quality worm is available for £3!

Hopefully we see better numbers in forthcoming leagues

Well done to all of you for turning out on a promenade circus and specially well done to Ava who has become a force to be reckoned with.
Apologies for not attending this one but family duties hijacked the day , hopefully I will make more of the summer matches with covid upsetting foreign travel etc etc.
