Longest Specimen Fish Pool - Stu Hayes.......34cm Bass - 40 Points (£14)

Round 5 saw 14 rods travel along the North Wales coast to what was a lively yet sunny North Shore at Llandudno in search of more points towards their overall Summer League campaigns.

With this being an evening match fishing into dusk and up and over high water conditions whilst initially difficult with weed improved to look much better for some of the summer species that like to spend their time in the upper layers such as Mackerel and Garfish as well as the normal resident Whiting and Dogs.

Everyone found their chosen spot and the match got underway.........................

There were varying tactics on show with some of the lads choosing to fish up in the water with pop ups whilst others stuck to their guns with standard bottom bait rigs. Dave Roberts was rewarded for his precise rig tying with this Mackerel..............

Stu Hayes then took the best fish of the match in the form of a 34cm Bass which was quickly released back into the water before a picture could be taken and this fish would be enough to secure him the longest specimen fish pool on the day.

Paul Tucker, Dave Roberts and Dave Vernon were all ticking their cards over with fish however the stamp of fish was poor with pin Whiting plaguing people fishing with traditional tactics. These small fish made it really difficult to build a points total as a double shot of them only equated to around 15-16 points each cast..............................

So it as darkness fell it would come down to who could find the elusive Dogfish which had not been present in their normal numbers at this venue however inevitably as darkness began to fall they came on the feed and Paul Tucker was able to find two which with the length to points conversion against the fixed length of 50cm per Dogfish was enough for him to keep Dave Roberts and his 20 pin Whiting 1 Gurnard and 1 Mackerel at bay, with Dave Vernon taking third place.

Overall a tough match and a war against the pin Whiting for some whilst others struggled to find the fish on a night when the fishing did not quite live up to the conditions.

We now move on to Round 6 further down the North Wales coast line at what should be a more prolific Pwllheli.
