Which fixed spool reel?

Post by lal5000 »

After wrecking my new Penn Surfblaster II 7000 in less than a week I am on the lookout for a replacement.

Gutted as i really liked the surfblaster but it just stopped working out of nowhere. Spool doesnt move up or down.

I like the look of the Shimano Ultegra XTD at around £115 but does anyone have any other ideas?

It will be paired with a 15ft/16ft rod and spooled with 15lb mono.

I'm surprised at the quick failure of the surfblaster. I've got 3 of the affinities mk 1 that have been used and abused for over 3 years now and are still going strong but mine have always been used with braid. I even bought a 4th about a year ago just in case one packed in but it's still not been used.

The ultegras, however, always get a good write up and I think I could be tempted to give one a try if needed.

Get one of the Affinity copies of ebay Dyl @£22.You could buy 6 or 7 for the price of the others.Use them, abuse them for a year or two and then throw in the bin and break out a new one.I bought one and they are excellent. If you buy them off the Alibaba website you can get 6 at £10 each.Bargain.

If buying cheap, not knocking it, just make sure you have a couple of spare with you. Nothing worth than looking forward to going fishing buying bait etc and being let down by a cheep reel or equipment
