Bobbing about on the Mersey.

I was lucky enough to have a trip out on the good ship HELIOS today,skippered by that plunderer of the sea's Phil,aka groundbait.We launched at New Brighton with a load of lads from Wirral small boats club who were having a mini comp.It was as cold as I've ever fished in and standing up to yer waist in freezing water to hold the boat steady after launching did not help matters especially if yers was only wearing waders and not chesties.
Anyway by 9am we were anchored up by the clock tower,much closer in than
the rest of the boats,and fishing for England in 12 metres of water.High water
was 07-50am,so it had just started to run off,and with it being only a small tide it meant it was very comfortable fishing,with only 8ozs of lead needed to hold bottom uptiding.We had the best of the fishing on the ebb,with quality
whiting and dabs showing frequently.The coddling did not let us down with three to 4lb coming aboard,all caught on big squid and suey baits.It probably would have been cheaper to have bought the fish at Asda but nowhere near as much fun.A big thanks to Cap'n Phil for hauling anchor from North Wales,and
just to illustrate how cold it was,I got back home about 6-30pm after being out for nearly 12 hours and was able to put most of the unused bait back into the freezer in a still frozen state. Hopefully I will put some pics into the gallery once I sort out the digicam.

when phil came on my boat he never got his feet wet and it was a lovely day to have a dip in the sea. shame on you phil can see now what ya were thinking its only ste duffy let him get cold
