Penn 515 Mag 2 Gear Noise

Another question about my 515 Mag 2 please. Took the line off it tonight and noticed when it's Free spool, ie cast position, when the handle is wound it makes this "Grinding" noise from the "Gear Box" at the bottom of the reel.
I then tried my 525 Mag 2, and it is silent when winding in this position. I heard some horror stories about low quality chinese components being used, anyone had anything similar please.
Or anyone who could recommend a Penn service?

Hi Andy, one of my 515 mag2 reels does this. It makes no difference to the reel as far as I can see. I guess it's a tolerance issue. It still casts great and cranks like a good thing when needed. I've had mine for years now and they have been very reliable and so easy to service.
