Alternative bait?

I just read an article about alternative baits and it said something about pig liver. Do cod really even know what the hell that is and eat it? Of course it mentioned the usual squid and mackerel but they said something about black garden slug and garden lobworm? Are they out of their mind or they might really work? Has anyone tried any of these? I might just buy some pig liver for the heck of it...

Full of scent ,amino acids and protein available for next to no effort most predatory fish would likely have ago but I just feel natural baits fished in the right areas (ie worm over sand crab over rock etc ) is going to out score it .There are loads of catches on unusual baits but loads more to natural baits if youve got some give it ago but if ya going out your way to get some id just head the bait shop instead.

Well, pig liver sounds so weird that I might just give it a go. Sometimes I cannot get to the tackle shop when I go fishing so no lug available but I could buy some pig liver in ASDA 17p for 100g is definitely worth a shot. Mix it with some squid or mackerel and hope for the best. Have you actually tried any of these baits Neil?

Tried alot wierder than that ,try blueberry flavoured edible fake ragworms used as a lure and caught plenty on it ,I would never say anything wont catch and wont be surprised if you do, as ive even caught a whiting on a chunk of snickers pizzing around in the docks as a kid but proper bait will out score it tbh otherwise the match lads wouldnt pay 1 pound each for whites or crab they'd just be stocking up on liver
