Akios Shuttle verses Abu TSR

Post by AndyJ »

Hi folks, another quick question for the people out there using the Akios Shuttle reels.
Looking at all the photo's, not seen one in the flesh yet... It "Looks" like the knobby mag adjuster is very close to the left side tension cap, is this the case? Or does it sit proud of the cap to ease adjustment?
I'm asking as my Neurological problem impairs my dexterity and strength, and if it as close it looks, adjusting the mag would be very difficult.
Also looking at the Abu TSR, any thoughts on these folks? They sound a good reel, by the reviews..
Thanks folks...

Andy the mag adjuster is free moving and is not too close to the spool adjuster. You shouldn't have any problem.I can bring one to Vale Parking if you're fishing the match.

That'll be great, thanks Steve. Will be fishing Vale Park, and my mate has just bought an Akios Tourno, and the mag again, "Looks" different to the shuttle, so will have a good look at that too..
And of course, the Abu TSR looks good as well. A man can't have too many reels....

The Akios tourno is one of those reels that you adjust through the cast. Its more of a field casting reel in my opinion.

Akios Shuttle verses Abu TSR

I'd ditto Steve's views on the tourno. Great if you're casting over grass but for fishing I'd go with the standard shuttle. The tourno isn't supplied with a power handle and it doesn't have a lineout alarm/ratchet clicker which can be very useful. Also, having been an Abu man for over 20yrs, I sold all of my abu's last year and moved over to akios. There's very little in casting ability but the akios have noticeably stronger gears.

I looked at an Akios a few months ago, but a brand new Green Mag Elite came available via Mr Duffy, so I bought that.. Anyhow now I'll get the chance to have a look at the Akios's on Sunday, and as Malcom at Beaumaris doesn't stock them, I could be in for a trip to buy one.... :D
