New Spinning Rod

I'm after a half decent spinning to to take away to fuerteventura with me when I go. Needs to be able to cast lures around the weight of 30-40g. Anyone have any specific picks they have or have used that they recommend?

Hi buddy

Do you want a travel rod or a regular 2 piece spinning rod? Cant help on the travel rod front, but the "best buy" for me would be the Teklon 802, now available from Veals for £99.

It's a "proper" lure rod that will handle the Bass, Pollack and Wrasse over here too or stick a 2oz lead on the end of a set of feathers or sabiki's and have some fun with the Mack

Will it handle barracuda and stuff like that? I could do with a rod which I can use here as well as over there

No idea mate. Never caught one on it!

Best I've had on mine is a 6lb Pollack (or a full house of mack), which it handled fine

I was unfortunate enough to break my lure rod (faulty section) over there on the first day which limited my fishing a bit. So make sure you give your rods a good try before you go.

When i looked for a replacement the one he recommended in the tackle shop there was the penn overseas pro travel rod. I resisted the temptation to buy but got one when I got home for about £40 less. It's meaty enough to handle big fish and cast 20 to 80g. It breaks down to just 60cm so can easily fit into a suitcase. I'm sure other manufacturers will do something similair.

If anything we found the gear a bit dearer there also if you get travel rods it avoids a hefty surcharge on the likes of Ryan air.
