snake lake then epic T

Post by alf - big al »

Met up with captain ken at the snake lake again after some blistering sport over the past few weeks, gotta say the fishing was the slowest its been for a long time, i think the fish are spawning right now in this pond, having caught a lot of bream last week that were covered in spawning tubercles, the silver fish fishing was still a fish a chuck on small soft pellet or corn, but personally i struggled trying to find better fish. The captain on the other hand played the game better than me, opting to fish maggot and small soft pellet over groundbait, anyway...our swims..

Ken opted to fish the overhanging trees, and i went on the hot barbel corner, but ken struck first blood on the barbel hooking a lump on maggots

after a fine scrap, he landed a 6 pounder....happy days for ken.
I persisted catching a few pasties and some beautiful long tailed brown goldfish, after bumping a few fish on the solid 12 elastic, i decided to put on a lighter power top with just a solid 6 elastic, it worked, i was now hooking all the bites but then........i hooked a lump that took off at a rate of knots and had me struggling to build the pole to 12.5 metres to catch it up and then twang....it was gone, my inside swim died a complete death and for the next 2 hours i couldnt buy a bite, even after topping up the feed and leaving the swim alone..nothing, but ken was in again...

this time a little smaller, but he certainly had the tactics right for the barbel

While i sulked on my peg...ken had a wander off to the T pond behind us, there were carp all over the surface, and not a soul on there, so i quickly set up a match rod with 6lb line straight through to a size 10 hook and crept into the corner dropping a lump of crust just in front of the peg board.....WHAM !!!!! a carp took it straight away.
after a good scrap it was in the net
Image
we wandered around the pond picking off the carp one after the other, ......i love stalking...its the only way to catch carp, the adrenaline buzz is unreal

think this one was a grass carp, what a fight for a carp of about 6-7 lbs, it snagged me in a lilly bed under my feet, and after mooching around with the landing net ken managed to free it and it was netted
Image
my best fish was a tad under 11lbs

What started out as a pretty poor day for me turned out not bad at all, good job ken had taken that stroll or it would have been a different story

No its not a Grass carp as they have fins more like Chub in size and position.
