Took micro and 4mm pellets soaked, spicy luncheon meat, bread and sweetcorn, set up just the one power kit with a hollow 6 elastic, 4lbs mainline to a 3lb bottom and 16 hook,
ive never ventured to the top end of the canal pond, there are plenty of likely looking swims, but i settled for one that i could reach the far bank reeds at 9metres and had some reeds on the inside to fish a second line close in.
After plumbing the depth , i was gutted to discover a depth of just 2 feet right across the entire swim, on any other day i would have moved straight away to somewhere deeper, but as i said i was pressed for time today, so had to knuckle down where i was, i fed both swims with mixed sized pellets and went to the margin first with corn on the hook, followed by pellet and meat, couldnt buy a bite.and the same on the far bank. I was thinking that it was a bit cold for carp and tench, but theres a good head of barbel and chub in the pond so i carried on regardless.
then the rain started, still biteless after nearly 2 hours, i was questioning my own sanity, fishing in the bitter cold wind in just 2 foot of water.
Then made a switch to small pieces of breadflake and on the first drop the float dipped away and i had a small skimmer, then another and a few good roach, i carried on feeding the pellets and fishing the flake over them, then the carp moved in....nothing spectacular, just nice sized what i call pasties about a pound in weight.
Wish i had tried the bread sooner, as it was time for me to hit the road much before i would have wanted to go, i lost a few humdingers that bottomed out the elastic, but learned a few lessons today, and wont make little schoolboy errors next time, anyway...some caught, and what would have deffo been a blank only for mothers pride saved.
