Line for Mag Elite

Post by muzz »

I need to put some line on my Mag Elite. Don't know where its all gone

What is the best line to have on 15lb 20lb etc and do I put it on right up to the end of the spindle?

What maintainance to I need to do to the reel Ive heard mention of oil but don't know what type or where to put it.

Thanks in advance.

In my humble opinion Ultima F1 line is the best although there are many good lines on the market. Fill your spool to within 2mm and then attach your shockleader (preferably tapered). There is some cracking maintenance advice in the reel room section of this forum. I'm sure others on here will have their favorites. :) :)

I'm using Sufix Tritanium in yellow at 15lb, used to always use Penn 15lb but the Sufix line seems to have less memory and casts better, at least for me.

Don't fully fill the spool. Fill up to about 2mm from the edge of the spool.

Oil the bearings and some in the end caps and spool shaft.

Grease the gears and spool disengagement mechanism but don't get any on the drag washers.

Muzz. If you want to bring your reel to mine I'll show you how to clean/oil the bearings. I have a spare bottle of "Rocket Fuel" you can have. :)

;) f1 is very good line but i have found in summer it weakens (you will see a discolour in the line were its weakened ) very quickly with the heat ;) good in winter though depends on how many times you change your line a year or every few sessions can be costly so penn super-surf is a very good alternative i also use 15lb big game carp line diameter is alot thinner and stronger than all the 18lb line used ;) (ideal for the bass sessions)
