BAIT CLIP (UP)

What would be a good clip which will always release for a snood which is clipped up rather than down. So you know the method I am talking about, refer to the basic Bass Rig in the learning zone. I have used many decent clip down techniques, but not so sure about a reliable clip up. Photos or a researchable makers name/model would be helpful. Thanks fellas (and girls I know we have at least one)

Without having one in my hand it's hard to tell from the link you gave (for which I am very grateful so I know what to shop for) I just cant see what triggers it to release. Is it threaded like an impact bait shield?.............but then it wouldn't be able to move up as the tension from the hook would hold it?

Looked at those Steve, they appeared to be designed for clip down rigs, relying on the water flow/impact to release the mechanism

Why dont you want to clip them down. I personaly hate any things that help your rigs stay cliped down apart from breakaway impact leads or the gemini as they are near enough perfect

I don't want to clip it down as the snood runs from the bottom of the rig....................it is already at the bottom so there is nothing below to clip it to! The idea is to make a rig with a flowing trace at the bottom, similar to a running ledger.

Yep that's the style Spud. I have made up similar rigs, but there must be a less complex way to do it (like the IMP, but the other way up)

Kev and Ben I hear what you are saying. We still need a top clip though. I have a couple of up and over rigs made up (and used) but I'm not 100% trusting in the top clip releasing. I have been using the gemini clips, but unless you go the whole hog and make them as per spudgun's link, they are a bit hit and miss. I have previously been making them the same as your example in the rig forum, Kev................how well have you got on with the top clip releasing?

Try using a heavier line for the snood. I find this helps with the release and tends not to tangle.

You could try making something like this up:



Blue = "Shield" - a flat disc with 2 holes
Red = Snood line
Black = Wire clip (Grip wire )
Green = Rig Body/Leader

The shield is pushed up when upon impact with the water and so pushes the line free from the wire clip.
