Birkenhead Park

I know that the lake at Birkenhead Park has now been re-filled as part of the recent rennovations.

Does anyone know what the current situation is with fishing in the park??

I think i read in the paper that the lakes had been stocked with fish but don't know of what variety or size these fish would be?

Also is it unlikely that they would have stocked any predatory fish such as pike and perch?

its been restocked with silver fish, i think perch have gone in as well, i know that no carp where stocked but i am sure they will appear, you will need an AWAC permit to fish the park as well as a enviroment agency licence, you can get the AWAC from the bailiff n the bank or Fisherman Tackle on Laird Street or Wirral Angling Centre on Church Road, we dont sell them as i cant get answers to questions i ask !!!

safe to assume that its all very small fish then?

When you say the carp will appear do u mean that they will be stocked?

Does the same apply for Pike?

yeah they will be stocked but bot by the normal channels ....... ie the kids will put them in there from other ponds

hmm interesting.

Its hard to motivate yoursel to go fishing at a location when you KNOW there are no big fish out there!!!

I think you'll find there are a LOT of people (me included) who will be glad of a place with no carp in! I think people round here have forgotten what it's like to fish in water they can see through. I'd love to get back to the days when you could go down to a pound bottom without worrying about hooking some pellet pig and wrecking your swim.

They can take them from Arrowe Park - only Carp and Sticklebacks in there......

the bottom park has been fising well all year expect mixed bags of mainly small crucian carp, small tench (max 1.5 lb), roach, rudd, gudgeon. there are a small stock of very small carp and koi, also the chance of a golden tench or golddfish. i have been informed that the local kids have been stocking carp in2 double figures but have not seen many except a fluke 16lb common. the best tactic last summer semmed to be 2 fed hemp little n often with a few expanders and fish expanders on the hook 4 the crucians switching over to corn 4 the tench. this is a bag ammased in 3 hours mid july hope that givs u a pic of what 2 expect

firstly why would u condone transfering fish from lake 2 lake need i say anymore on the subject.
secondly arrow park has not only carp, it holds a vast head of bream my pb there being over 7lb, a few specimen sized tench which can prove very elusive but never the less are present a nice stock of silverfish and a good head of pike aproaching upper doubles.
before telling people about the quality of a lake or not as the case may be, make sure u kno the facts, and if i see any1 removing fish frm arro there will be hell 2 pay believe me. anyone interested in the place pm ill be glad 2 put u on the fish, tight lines

Have you fished it recently?, it was like this 15-20 years ago - it's not anymore - I too remember the tench and Bream - I don't think they are there anymore and certainly have not responded to the tactics that caught them then, so I assume they are no longer there - in fact my Bream tactics only produced small Carp over half a dozen visits.

The carp in Arrowe are now line-shy as they are overfished IMHO.
