float fishing

thinking of having a try at float fishing at whitebeach for first time.any tips would be appreciated.i usually fish on the bottom there but have read reports of good catches using float,and any method that improves your catch/species is worth a go.only done sea fishing this year so a novice really.

sliding float with hook lenth weaker than main line keep just of the bottom change depth according to tide times rag/crab/live eel if you can get it macky for the pollock

If you have`nt done it and don`t know the score,you may think it`s complicated.....not a daft question at all Small rag is prob` gunna get you more bites than any other bait,especially if you leave an inch or so of tail to hang free

a sandeel fillet works very well , baits fished on a float tend to be more visual than scent so something that "wafts" about a lot can be a killer. If you are planing to do a bit at night then get one of the "eddystone" floats that take a nightlight.
Another tip i was told was that if you are having trouble with the bait tangling round the float when you cast - tie a elastic band to the line below the floatand push it up a foot from the swivel. This seems to "bounce" the float out the way when you cast

Hi, Ive been a summer holiday fisherman for a about 2 years now, and wanted to take the hobby a bit further. Ive seen the simple float set up that seems to be the main way of fishing the float, but i was just wondering..... can you fish feathers on the float? still having the lead at the end of the feathers of cause but instead of having the feather scraping the bottom, having them mid water?

This may sound compleatly stupid i know, but i was just curious, and wanted to try a few new way of catching mackerel when the summer comes. Thanks, Aeron.

p.p.s. what the flippin heck is a snood? and what does 1 hour up and one hour down mean? these terms have been confusing me no end!

the snood is the lenght of line your hook is on

one up, one down is one hour before or after high or low

the main aim to rock fishing is getting the fish away from its lair so you dont snag up simple single hook rigs will give you a better chance

yes you can do this with feathers but you will highly risk loosing your lead/feathers/float all the time.i would bet every cast .more hooks to snag the rocks just cast out your feathers into the open sea(without float) and retrive like your spinning when you come close to the rocks lift your rod up and high away from them rocky venues dont hold mackrel they are a shoal fish and rocks are a danger zone to them you will find you will hook into mackrel well away from the rocks if you hit a fish at the rocks it will be a pollock even on the feathers
most important to use is a shockleader for your own/mates/bathers safety
