I have just done an order for stronger fishing line spool of 33lb and 35lb / so I can fish with this right through and have no shock leader catching weed In the rougher winter fishing conditions .My casting distance is not an issue of such at the venues I fish anyway. More a case of having your bait in the right area the fish will feed over using cheap or old leads and using a rotten bottom set-up.

I have just been looking back at the river Mersey fishing / and I have only fished vale Park over the last 5 years at least so might start having a go at other spots like town hall steps / new Brighton again both are areas that I have had Cod from quite regular in the past.

I have had cod while fishing for Small eyed ray in Anglesey and when fishing for Bull huss in the menai straits and Bass fishing at Dinas Dinlle

Good size Whiting have become very rear now as well / I can remember plenty of good fishing session for whiting both local and north wales.

BIT OF help if you fish the Menai for cod ? DON'T get carried away with your casting they feed along the rocky shore line looking for small crab and shrimp / Especially during high water a cast of 30 to 50 yards is all that's needed / this also applies with Coalfish .

And like I keep saying try moving around when fishing fish different spots of a venue as the tide floods or ebbs.

Do you target Cod and where and how ???

My fave specs for winter fishing on the Mersey were Maddocks slip and Town Hall Steps for high water or Vale Park low water.
Sometimes I'd just chill out on New Brighton prom and be happy with dabs and whiting.
I think you gotta pay to fish there at night now

Bri my go to place for the cod is otters pool but it can be a pain in the axxe with the dog walkers having no control of their pets but for the last couple of years hardly any cod have shown up.

Not really interested in the river until the whiting have disappeared will be fishing the Alt and Crosby baths for the decent Flounder that are normally about end of October until January/February
That's the plan anyway
