After a longer break than anyone wanted or could have imagined when we last fished over 12 months ago, we finally got the WSF matches underway again at Perch Rock.

Sadly it was not the fish filled return that everyone was hoping for with a small tide and lack of run providing a tough challenge for all 14 anglers looking to open their account.

The first two hours passed without a sniff for anyone before Jeff White and Mark Davies thankfully broke the duck at the same time with a couple of Rays. Jeff White saw this one go 43cm on the measure...……………………



However Mark Davies saw his go 4cm better at 47cm and would be enough for the longest fish pool...…………….



The fishing simply never turned on and it was going to be a scratch to the finish with anyone finding even one fish putting themselves into the mix for the win and some money.

The highlight of the match then came when 12 year old Ava Kensall showed her Dad, along with everyone else how it was done with a gentle 15 yard lob out into shallow water seeing the downfall of this lovely 32cm Plaice...……………….



Roy Schofield can always seem to find a fish or two when most are struggling and yet again this proved to be the case, on a day when only 5 anglers caught a total of 6 fish between them, Roy was the only person with two fish on his card including this 39cm Plaice which was enough to give him the opening day win...………………

Yes, fishing was poor, but the weather and company remained excellent (except at 8am when we got soaked in the car park)

I’d blanked at Talacre at the Skua match the day before and couldn’t face another grueller!
Had more blanks so far this year than the previous 21/2 years put together!

Another great day shame a few more fish didn't show Well done on the win Roy. But got to say that the winner of the main event was ava unlucky dyl.

Sport has been in the doldrums for a few weeks now, so match result was a true reflection of that.....things should improve soon.
