Looking to change my leader knot,as although i can tie it in the kitchen, for some reason i struggle to do it on the beach, usually needing at least 6 attempts which drives me mad. The
Crystal knot is generally used for braid to mono, but i tried it before with a tapered leader and 16lb main line and it seems pretty good.....anyone used this knot,or have any suggestions (apart from the bimini twist)

The
Double Uni Knot also looks tidy

I've always used a 5 twist blood knot...it's easy to tie, small and providing you don't trim the tag ends too close (leave 1mm tags) then they hold very well.

That crystal ones an improved Albright under a different name if you're using mono Kev spider hitch then I don't know what you call the knot to attach leader to that but its a good connection you put leader through loop wrap round three four turns make sure you then put it back through the same way int went through in the first place or if braid Bimini then Yucatan to attach to that
http://www.netknots.com/fishing_knots/yucatan-knot/ strong as hell & forms round the outside brilliant knot it is small & neat into the bargain

I always use a 'double uni knot' for similar b/s line on a taper shoker, and to date it's never let me down.

Double uni for tapered shock leaders and the 'crystal knot' for normal shockleaders.

I use the 'Double Uni Knot' for tapered leaders or for joining two lines of similar strength/diameter. I find if you try to use it with mainline to normal shock leader then it 'sticks' sometimes on the leader side, even with plenty of lubrication on the lines. In this instance I prefer the 5 turn blood knot.

I use a hangman's knot on either side of the leader and main line, very easy to tie outside, even when windy. This knot has never let me down
For Braid to nylon I use an Albright knot, better tied at home.

I've used the crystal knot although same as tatch called it 'modified albright' without any issues for braid to mono.
I read Tatch's post in another thread about using a bimini and yucatan. So before the otterspool match I'd loaded braid on my reel and tied said knots, looked good. Then getting set up at the old jetty and 2nd practice cast ended up with a wind knot that I couldn't be untangled before the all in so had to cut my line and revert to modified Albright. I pulled out of a couple of snags with the line parting on the hook link.

For mono to normal shock leader I use the Bimini twist, fantastic knot and has helped me pull out of snags many times. For tapered leaders I use the double uni knot.. I've resorted to using braid leaders if I am using braid mainline and I double up the braid and use a double uni for that too. Having a lot less problems with the braid leader, seems to flow better on the cast

Loaded my reel up and used the double uni knot to tie the leader.....think i`ll be sticking with that
