Can this be fished on spring tides ? It`s a handy spot for my old fella,but as i`ve never fished it,i`d be grateful for any info on it

Up on a tide about 8.5 metres is supposed to
Be best,it should be fine for your dad,a short walk
And a little climb through the hole someone's cut
In the gate with a whizzed ha ha

You're fishing in the shipping channel basically where all the boats head
For Eastham ferry terminal and as the
Middle of the river dries,out at low water, and the amount of
Pull when it floods/ebbs is vicious

As previously said, small tides with at least 6 or 7 oz grippers. Only need to cast 50 yards.

I was down there this morning with about 10 others tide far too high only one small codling caught. The mussel beds close in are quickly becoming a tackle graveyard. You only get such a small window to fish due to the very strong pull I gave up after no bites for 3 hours

It is nige. I gave up last time after loosing 3 full sets of shocky and rigs. I'd never go back.

Where on the Jetty where you?the right hand
Side is v snaggy but halfway to the other end
Is ok,fishing on big tides is asking for it like
At cod corner-you need to adopt similar tactics,
Your gear won't stop moving til it hits a snag so
Rotten bottoms and 35lb straight through give you
Enough pulling power for the snags etc etc,I'd fish
Town hall or vale on big tides.

Alright JJ to be honest I've tried all along and found it snaggy everywhere. Poor 2 guys next to me this morning lost so much gear this morning they ran out of leads. I've tried rotting bottoms but still found the mussels grab hooks as I heaved some rigs in with snapped hooks. I need to improve my rig construction as this is my local mark so I do want to stick with it.

Try softer wire match hooks and hook snoods above the lead. Also stop knots instead of crimps . The the knot will give and the hook can spring back out of the snag. If they are line snags take the beads of your grip wires and replace them with elastic band so if the line does catch on the wires they will trip rather than the line catching behind the bead which is then impossible to get back. Snags are a part of fishing life and in my experience that's where the fish are too. Hope this helps

In my limited experience Ian's advice is spot on!

The flow is so strong that spring tides give you a very short fishing time, although I did catch one codling over slack lst week.

The right hand corner is very snaggy, the left hand corner has shopping trolleys just below. The middle is fine except for lost gear. If your set up is balanced the mussels will pull off on your hook or leads and let's face it this is where the fish could be. Also at present because of the crabs you need to change bait every 10 mins or so and the mussels have less time to get hold!

I've given up on there a few times because people fishing near by use the wrong leads and gear. It needs a 6oz grip lead at least.

As Trishy said look to use a different set up. I pulled up one last week from there and learnt quite a lot from it?

Another thing that helps me here is to fish it a little bit differently. Don't cast in and tighten straight up to your lead because then it will bounce around. What I find works for me is to cast uptide then give out some slack to create a bow in the line. This helps the lead to get a quicker and better hold preventing it bouncing around into snags. You will still see a bite through quite a large bow.

I also swap my leads at different stages of the tide. When the pull is strongest I use the long fixed wire type and go to normal breakout leads as it eases.
