The Fishermans Net

Seeing as the fishing has been poor of late me and Graham were uhm'ing and ah'ing over where to go, kinmel Bay, Pensarn, Penmaenmawr or The Dee. Then Graham had an idea, instead of going fishing why not go on a pumping session at Ainsdale? Straight away I agreed as I have only got one pack left. We arrived got set up and walked out to the low water mark, to say it was hard going is an understatement, all the low tide line was just mud which was completely different to the last couple of times we've been. Graham came away with quite a lot more than me which is about right I managed to struggle on through the mud too Not the best haul in the world but at least we have more than we had, it'll certainty put us on till the next time we go .

How do you preserve them ?

Dry them out in newspaper for a good couple of hours, wrap em up and into the freezer, I find the dryer they are the better they freeze.

Managed 110 but they weren't the biggest worm in the world. I'm not sure how it'll be for the lads that will be venturing out at Formby later this week but it was tough going at Ainsdale...a couple of inches of surface liquid mud made it difficult to spot casts and heavy mud underneath made pumping really tough. Still it was a nice break from dismantling old bedroom furniture!

For some reason I find these bigger tides result in a layer of fine mud on the beach.It can be a right pain sorting out the casts.

Was the mud alright to walk in or was it hard going? Got a club match this weekend an d my chief bait collector( my dad , Les) has selfiishly, gone off to fish the rosslare small boats festival in Ireland! Soooo, got to pump some black and get some crab for the weekend!

You'll be fine walking in it Ste, the surface mud is only an inch or so deep. Pumping was very tough going though in the thicker stuff underneath. I found pumping in the water run offs to be a bit easier as the mud was softer and less sticky.

No none at all Steve.

They will show over the next night or two if we keep this high pressure system.They won't show without high pressure.Low pressure sends them deeper because they don't want to get washed out of their burrows by the storms that often arrive with low pressure systems.
