Bit after the event but I thought I'd drop a line in case anybody else comes across this problem.
The kids bought me a slosh for Xmas but the free spool lever wouldn't fully actuate (didn't force it too hard). Didn't want to go through all the re-shipping etc. so decided to have a look. Never had a proper look inside a multiplier before. On removing the side plate, after a bit of puzzling it was apparent that the pinion gear wouldn't slide to disengage itself to allow the free spool. With a bit of effort I got it "unstuck". The reason it wouldn't move was the grease (light blue) around it, and the shaft in that area, had solidified. Cleaned it down , re-lubed, and all was o.k.

Already used that principle,

If get solidification around shaft,
take it out, give it a wipe, relube then put back in.
