Always used fixed spool reels now i want to start getting that extra distance at some venues and would really like to maybe get a multiplyer and start using that,

Noticed this one on the net seems to good to be true but looks like a nice rod no idea what that or the reel is like? Its 16ft would that be what i need?

Never an easy subject to give advice on,as even if you know about/used a certain rod/reel it`s still very much your opinion and something that suits one angler,may not suit another. Never heard of the gear your talking about,but one thing i can say is that a 16ft rod (if it`s a good one) will prob help to improve your casting distance,though it will take some time to get used to. I have had a few sessions with my new 15ft rod,and though it`s giving me more distance,i`m still nowhere near getting the best out of it.

as kev has said very difficult question.......imo regarding the reel i think you would be better sticking to the well known casting ones abu or daiwa or penn as these are tried and tested good performing casting reels......the longest rod i own is 14ft personally i wouldnt go any longer but im small at 5"6 and think a longer rod would cause me problems and i dont like 3 piece rods anyway ......i know its nice to get a bargain setup but in my opinion you wont be happy with that set up if its more distance your after once again all this is my opinion but ive went down the road you are considering and bought twice as i wasnt happy hope this helps.im sure there are plenty of guys on here that would let you have a few chucks with their gear to see what you really like.

I bought one of them 16ft Mitchel rods when I started. They are absolute dog oops! Just horrible bendy tomatoe poles.

If you want to improve your casting and get more distance I think you'll want a stiffer rod but not too stiff so it's a little forgiving when you snatch at the cast rather than cast nice and smooth. Personally I think uou'd be better off with a shorter rod about 12.5 to 13 ft. Easier to handle.

The Mitchell rod is a long floppy thing thats worth £20 tops and the reel is the equivalent of the old Neptune which again is worth £20 tops.
While longer rods do help you to cast further if they are rubbish rods you will still cast rubbish distance.Far better idea is to learn to cast first with a normal 12 /13 foot rod then progress to a multiplier reel but the reel will cost you at least £60 to get anything that is anyway controllable.

the advice i got given when i first moved over to buying a multiplier was buy a good second hand one, if you buy one new and don't like it and want to sell it second hand its lost its value, if you buy it second hand you can pretty much get your money back on it if you sell it in the same condition

loads of decent second hand ones on ebay from between £30 and £60

as the lads have said second hand gear is the way to go then ya not losing out if ya dont get on with it, ya have gotta love tackle tarts they get bored with the new in stuff so quick , i got a second hand slosh for 20 quid from parkfield farms fishery shop the other week and its in better nick than my own other one , if ya ever up meols/moreton way take a look in there ya can get some good second hand gear (loads of rods with m.a.c stickers on ) and he has a selection of new gear including abu 6500's alot lower than rrp, not many rigs and sea gear but worth rummageing around in there especially if ya carp/ course fish aswell

A multiplyer won`t make any difference to your casting distance,but the vast majority will agree that they are much nicer to use than fixed spools.

To be honest i have got a fair few rods some i bought new and some i bought second hand! I have a 12ft shakespeare its a really old rod nice and stiff doesnt go all over the place in the wind and its white

Sadly one of the eyes has snapped off and i have not used it for about 12 months as i dont know were to get it fixed and how much it would cost? really would like to get that sorted as its a great rod i think the thing i need the most is maybe a decent reel then?

It's Multiplier, No "Y" Y?, I have no idea.

If you want a quality rod that gives good distance with a lazy lob (ooooh errrr misses) the Century BB (black bird) is exceptional, designed for overhead thumping to distance but can handle better casting styles as well. This is made for FS reels .
