I bought a 13" shakespeare salt fixed spool beachcaster a few years back and the thing only has 5 rings on the tip section and nothing on the butt section. Whenever I use a shock leader of 60lb using an albright or uni to uni knot I get a crack off from the knot catching on the first ring. The inner diameter of the ring is 23mm and 30mm from the inner section of the metal ring (not including the ceramic liner). How are rod rings measures, is mine a 23mm or 30mm? I think I will get a 6th larger rod ring put on the butt section where could I get this done and how much would it cost?
Also would it be recomended to replace the meta diamite ring tip on my Zziplex federation for a ceramic one?

Re: Rod rings
The Fisherman sorted me out with a 40mm ring for the butt section for £4.50
and low and behold.... problem solved. My leader knot (A simple granny knot on 60lb leader to an 8 turn uni knot in the 30lb braid) no longer catches in the rings and I can cast about 100 - 120m (140 turns of the handle on a 6000 size Daiwa Emcast f/s) using an off the ground cast with a 9-10ft drop and 4oz.
Tip to any one going the beach to practice casting, go when the tide is in or your reel will collect a lot more sand
p.s, I think the line roller is one of the most important components on a fixed spool when cleaning and stripping it down I used 3 in 1, is this o.k or should I use some sort of reel grease?
