Match Report: 5th round of N.W.A.S.A.C. P. M.s Championship, George Crane Memorial Match, Sun 20.5.12 Rock Channel, New Brighton

On a fine bright day, flatfish were the main quarry at this low water channel with dabs, flounders and plaice making up the catches.
Former champion, John Waugh, drew peg 2 in Zone A and this was subsequently chosen as the golden peg; his task was to win the zone. After a close battle with England youth international Ben Harrison in the earlier stages, John pulled ahead to win the match, zone, the golden peg kitty of £193 and the George Crane trophy, moving into 2nd place in the championship in the process. Paul Bonner won Zone B for second place overall,
Steve Crowder’s late plaice of 42 cms took the flatfish pool while a bass of the same length for Joe McCarthy was the best round fish.
continuing his successful match comeback.
Bootle’s Carl Edwards now leads the series, having scored well in all matches.
