Daiwa SL20SH - Clamping Plate Usage?

Just bought myself a new SL2OSH today - can't wait to give it a try.

I've fitted the 'Red' brake blocks and will add a couple of drops of Red Rocket fuel into the bearings then load it with 20lb Ice line before the first (on the field) trial.

I have a question please?

The instruction sheet recommends that 'the reel clamping plate should always be attached to reduce shock loading and vibration'. I was intending to just use my two coasters to secure it to the rod, as I've always done on my Abu 6500.

Will only using coasters to secure the reel to the rod be a problem in the future?

Dont know anyone who uses the clamps on there beach casting rods and they dont seem to have a problem

I couldn't remember seeing them previously with the clamp plate attached. Also just been on utube and found some distance casters using them - without a clamp plate fitted!

The general feedback is that the SL20SH will normally take some real stick before it finally gives up!!

I have the sl20 and only use coasters with mine. I have never used the clamp, its still in the box unused.

;)i dont use mine either from the shore or boat BUT its always handy to put in your tackle box just in case your coasters fail while out fishing
