Finally getting round to fishing the rivers again,after limited experiences a good few years ago I`ll be on the bank at first light,in search of chub n barbel,though i`m told it`s fishing hard in the daytime,with billy barbel playing out after dark Not really bothered about catching,as i`ll need a couple of sessions to suss the river out,and get used to the different tactics/tackle....really looking forward to just being there

Managed to snare 3 good chub early on before it died a death from 7.30am....called it a day at 11.30am....few rods out but not much showing...level was dropping like a stone,which must have had something to do with it had`nt changed the batteries in my camera Thanks to Jaygo for the info,even though your directions were carp

Did`nt have my scales either,but they were around the 4lb mark,taken on meat...couple of swan shot about 8" from the size 10 hook,and flicked under the branches of a tree (next time i`ll try in the river )

Get some of those big slugs from the garden.They are deadly for chub.Freeline them for best results.

After further discussions with Jaygo,it appears i was at the wrong farm still the St.Helens stretch of the Ribble,but not the hot stretch We`re going again on Thurs...whether we actually find each other is another matter

normally salmon pellets or 17mm halibut pellet wrapped in paste..then later in the year boiley wrapped in paste,,with micro pellets in a blockend feeder.or cheese paste for the chub..dont like to use meat that much as the eeeels can be a pain..had some good days trotting maggot for the chub and roach...

How big do you reckon the chub go to there Jay laaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Does`nt the scent of the paste,over-power the pellet/boilie why not just use paste or boilie/pellet

when using paste the pellet or boilie is just there to help keep it on the hook in most cases, as i like to use a soft paste and it wouldnt stay on the hook otherwise. you can get paste coils but i prefer to have another bait on the hook just incase the paste does come off,

as for the size of chub up to at least 7lb..my best is 5.8 so far.but that will change this year as i plan to go after them a bit more.

I`m a fan of meat myself,ooh err missus used much bigger baits than usual the other day,and had quite a few bites apart from the 3 i hooked.....was lookin at a" barbel hunter" the other month who gets 2 baits out of a full tin of luncheon meat
