Morecambe----Heysham North Wall (High water mark)

Here's a few pics for people who've not fished this venue before....
Head for Heysham Harbour......
As you approach the harbour you want to follow the directions for "All Freight Traffic"....
So that means RIGHT at the lights.....
Follow the road and you'll see this which is the start of the North wall...

Don't worry, no one's ever been pulled!!
Originally, you were supposed to get a free permit from the local tackle shops, but this has fizzled out. Just park your cars close into the side & don't block access, commonsense really
Looking back towards the old lighthouse, think it's called "Nab Naze" or summat? Few years back a fella got a 9lb bass fishing there in NOVEMBER!! He was after whiting/cod but the wall was that busy it was the only place he could fish!! What a bonus!!.....To the far left of the pic in the distance is throbshaw point.......the sandy bay between throbshaw and the towers is known locally as Half Moon Bay........
At the base of the wall there's a few rocks but they don't pose a problem, unless you stop reeling in right on top of them!!
you're fishing onto clean ground.....In the distance, to the right of the picture in the tide line you can just make out "The Wreck".
It's the wreck of an old wooden ship (the "vanadis" I think!!) which uncovers at low tide........
The locals use it as a landmark when fishing low water here. You might hear it mentioned in a report as "fished low water at heysham to the right of the wreck" etc...
Back on the North wall....there's loads of room and you can fish out of the back of your car..: Get the brews on!! Like I said, I park my car with two wheels on the pavement so as to keep plenty of access down the road....
You used to be able to drive right onto the roundhead at the harbour entrance, but there's a gate stopping you now....
So if you want to fish there you'll have to walk.......
Opposite the red gate is some rough ground, the remains of an old oil jetty.........
The road narrows past the gate and it's mainly rough ground...
You end up on the roundhead......
This venue is basically the outer northern wall of Heysham Harbour...hence "North Wall"!!
It's comfortable fishing, you can fish from the back of your car. You can expect plaice, flounder and the odd bass in the summer, Codling whiting and flounder in the winter. You can get the occasional dogfish and dab too.
Usual baits, lugworm, ragworm, peeler and fish baits.
This is an easily accessible venue for young and old alike and not one we'd like to lose.....so take you're rubbish home please!!
