Anglesey - Newborough Beach

Newborough Beach, Map Ref 405 634 (Car Park)

Cross over to the island via the Britannia Bridge and take the first exit (A4080) into the village of Newborough. Turn left opposite the Spar shop and go down the lane for about a mile. You will come to a toll gate that will cost you £2. Go through the barrier and follow the lane down to the car park. Follow the path onto the beach.

This is a massive beach area stretching some 4 miles in either direction. In this bit I will deal just with Newborough itself and the beach to the left (south-east) down to Abermenai Point. Llandwynn Island to the right (west) and Maltraeth (north west) have their own sections.

Newborough beach is best fished with a surf on an inwards tide. It is good for bass, whiting, dogfish, flatties, rays and smoothhounds. It also is a good family day out with the forest containing all kinds of wild life, shallow beaches, ample parking and very modern public toilets
