Glorious weather met the 23 anglers who made their way out along the bank...reports from a match earlier in the day from further up the river did`nt bode well, but Perch down to low is usually pretty reliable for sport, and that`s how it turned out with everyone catching plenty of fish, though quality was sadly lacking.Dyl was soon in to his stride taking a succession of dabs and whiting, and after an hour my sandeel bait was taken by a stray dog to put me in pole position. My right hand man Lee lost a good fish as it came up the steep bank 30yds out at the far left end of the stretch, then started to catch whiting and the all important dab.I had 3 hours to catch a dab which would`nt be a problem, would it I went for a wander to see what was coming out,and plenty of dabs were showing further down along with whiting, notably a 33cm fish for Dave Roberts....good to meet Janet Griffiths who was fishing her first match with us,and she was getting plenty of fish, but as expected the bigger specimens were elusive. After a further hour without an insize dab,i made the move further down, fishing next to Jeff White as he`d had a few,but had to wait until an hour to go to finally snare one. Ava Kensall had a little break as she was feeling the cold, but came back strongly to take a fine 5th place, matching her dad`s catch.Gary Swift took a nice 34cm whiting which looked good for the longest fish pool (dogs don`t count) until the final hour saw that man Jimmy Redfern take the only ray of the day,a 41cm lunker which along with his 27cm dab was enough for the win.
