Sunday 29th on the Mersey

Post by Blue topaz »

It was an early start and the wind was blowing at 5.30 am and a swell was making over Pluckington Bank to an extent that a couple of charters cancelled anyway sometimes ignorance is bliss and we motored out at 5.50 Image
Sorry for poor shot .

The weather settled down as the light came and the river started to calm down.

The number of Whiting taken a board was around 50 maybe more Image

The day turned out sunny and calm , here is my mate Andy resplenadanty tucking into his lunch .

Is this last fish a small Pouting?

Anyway a memorable day but not a cod in sight- maybe the very small tide I don't know but I think everybody was in the same boat on that cod front yesterday . Maybe next time.

Ignorant might well be bliss but we're catching better fish on dry land so why take the risk

I see where you are coming from Gilly and this time we were lucky maybe because things did settle but can totally understand commercial skippers calling it off as some of the lads on board may not be able to stomach the rolling etc.

Steve, thanks for your post, do you reckon that last fish was a Pouting?

Good days fishing, you would not have a problem coming out of the Marina as it is sheltered up that end.
Launching off the beach in a North/North Westerly would have been difficult but the river calms down as the tide turns.
