I used 20lb power pro for spinning using a dexter wedge. There was a mild cross wind and over approximately 60 casts I had about 4 wind knots, resulting in me having to knot the line together after hacking off the knot. I manually flip the bale arm over and check the spool for loops but kept getting them random knots??? Any one got any pointers on how to avoid this problem?

Braid needs to be packed on the reel tight, even if there are no visible loops dangling about unless its on tight its going to knot up. The wedge itself should be enough to pack it tight enough if fished with a straight retrieve but issues arise when your 'working' the lure and reeling in the slack

Another possible cause could be a seized line roller on the bail arm

20lb might be a bit light so try 30lb next time,still thin but a bit more safety margin.

Cheers boys that advise makes sense. I use 30lb braid on a larger fixed spool for beach casting and I think a combination of the heavier line and the heavier weight stop wind knots because I have used this set up with no problem at all.

I am a novice with limited knowledge of braid, but from my own experiences have found its all about balance.depending on your rod and reel set up and what weight your casting effects what line you can get away with. I use a fairly soft spinning rod (probably more suited for freshwater species) and get away with using cheapo braid from go outdoors, no good for plugging around rocks and kelp but does the job for mackerel and schoolies on the beach. Using a beefier rod would probably need to up the rest of the tackle. But i have fished open beaches with a fair blow and had no trouble throwing out lures.

best answer right there, just grab the line after a cast and hold as you wind a little tension until u hit the lure

Also I think you need a good reel for braid with good line lay
