pellets and paste do the job

Post by alf - big al »

Got on the old match canal for a practice session before a match, limiting myself to pellets paste and maggots for this session, as that is all i will be able to use in the match, picked a good looking swim on the corner light wind, set up 2 power kits one with hollow 8 elastic 4lb mainline 3 lb bottom and 18 hook, the other hollow 10 elastic 4lb mainline 3lb bottom and 16 hook,

the forecast was for rain and increasing wind from the north west, so the brolly went up to save dashing about when the rain arrived

a few pots of soaked micro pellets went over at 11 metres and a couple into the margin on my left, i started on the far side taking roach and small carp and the odd skimmer, it must have been an hour in before i hooked my first good carp of around 5lbs, then took one of similar size in the margin swim, after that single fish the margin swim died a death and i couldnt buy a bite again, i fed heavily on the other side again and luckily the fish fed on, although not as avidly as they are on the bread, 5 hours later i had 50lbs of fish, i could only hope the match would produce as good.
