rocky rod recomendations

Hi all,

want to have ago at a few rock marks in 2012 and think my 15'6'' beachcasters may be a bit long for casting etc.

Therefore after a shorter rod with plenty grunt (I'm ever the optomist), and possibly a new reel. I'm assuming would need a reel with a higher retrieve and more umpf than my Abu 6500 CT Premium Mag.

As I dont get to fish very often don't want to spend silly money and may consider S/H, rough budget of Â£200

Any recomendations appreciated

Not sure on the rods but a slosh 30 or a penn mag will do the job.

For rocks or heavy ground they are ace.

How about non-multiplier reels? What's the best out there? Still at the novice stage and not confident for a multiplier... But want to upgrade my basic kit.

Use both sl03sh and pen 525. 525 is more cast friendly. Sl03sh just beats it on the crank power and ofcourse has higher capacity. If I could bear to part with the cash i'd use a 535 for the rocks as with 30lb straight through the 525 is a little low on capacity - not coz I can empty it from full in one cast, but if you get a couple of unlucky breaks you will be struggling for line.

As to rod - not got any specific recommendations - as a rule of thumb, if the rod is rated to cast around 4-8oz (or similiar) then it will be up to the job. You don't need a complete broomstick, basically if it will deal with the mersey deep water marks it will be absolutely fine on the rocks.
