my son and i are about to start sea fishing this autumn as we have been told its the best time to start,we have been course fishing for many years and dont know were to start with sea tackle,hook size,line strength,weights,we have carp rods ,will these do for starter,swill be thankful for any advice given as long as its pleasant,we live in the Liverpool area

Thats all i started with
. I would go and get a selection of leads rangeing from 2 to 4oz in weight and get some plain leads and some grippers
. Then go and buy a couple of two hook flapper rigs with size 2 hooks (these will be fine for most mersey species) dont buy rigs fladden or mustad rigs there not much, go for the greys rigs as they are quite good
. A reel line of 20 to 30lb will be fine for casting those leads
. There are loads of mersey venues where fish can be caught at close range
. Black lug is a good bait in the mersey in the winter along with squid

welcome to the site mate as above try your carp rods first with 2-3oz leads or grip leads 30lb line should be OK lug worm baits and as others say look through the rig section i use my century flattie rods allot in good weather for whiting +flatties +bass i use 2-3oz leads no problem holding it depends were your going to fish +how strong the tide pull is hope this helps mate
