Hello,
I was after some advice on what would be suitable for a bit of Sea Fishing locally + in Teignmouth, Devon (in-laws) + spinning for Bass, Mackeral and possible freelinging for Bass off bridge and in river at low tide. Being fairly portable would be good too as I sometimes bike to fishing places in Devon. Have been recommended 12' Fladen Beachcaster in local tackleshop for fishing Mersey but would this do for the other stuff? Was also considering 10' beechcaster or 9' telespin rod but these apparently not ideal for fishing in Mersey. Have also been recommended to try light sea fishing with my 11' float rod which sounded like a good start but fishing shop man said it wouldn't work.
Too much confusing information!!
thanks!
Anne
Cheap Rod for General Sea Fishing
Re: Cheap Rod for General Sea Fishing
A cheap carp rod would do the job, something with a 2 3/4lb to 3lb test curve would do for what you've described... and would be good fun if you hook into something half decent

Hello,
I went to the Fisherman's in Birkenhead. I did try to go to the Moreton shop but it is shut for refurbishment. My other usual shop is the one in Eastham. He is a nice chap but doesn't fish himself so not sure about his rod advice. I would like to buy locally and something I've seen rather than off internet. Support your local shop and all that..

Abu enticer bass is a good all round rod, rated to 3 oz. You can use it for chucking feather, plugs, float fishing and light esturary work. (a lot of bass rods will do the same)
If you want a cheap beachcaster to get you started, I've got a fladen chieftan you can have for 4 cans of stella

Thanks for your advice all. Simon, very generous of you to offer your beachcaster, thanks v much for that but the sad fact of our throwaway world is by the time I've bought Stella
and driven to Knutsford and back I could almost have bought one.
Still deliberating but coming round to fact that a beachcaster may be necessary. Are all tele beachcasters tosh?! Just can't imagine how 2 6' beachcaster lengths will fit round family on way to in-laws darn sarf!
Maybe I need more than one rod..

"and driven to Knutsford and back I could almost have bought one."
cause it's not like I'm on the Wirral every weekend
can't even give it away

It's a 3 piece by the way, fits easily in most cars.
Most beachcaster tele's are carp, unless you spend serious money. If you want a travel rod I'd recommend the Salt Travel 6 piece. 12ft and easily handles 6oz
