Plaice were expected but failed to show on a cold day on this shallow Dee Estuary beach with the sticky mud a challenge in the early stages. It was left to flounders and a few eels to make up the catches but these were elusive on many pegs.
Wallasey ace, John Waugh drew upon all his local experience to conjure up four flounders and an eel from Zone B, to baits that included mackerel, lugworm, squid and crab, regaining his winning form. England Ladies International Heather Lindfield was runner-up on one of her best venues with Team Wales’ Wayne McGilloway third.
Joe Perry’s sixth place was sufficient to give him the championship lead.
