Highfield Fisheries, Beech Lake...31/05/09

Post by Shacky »

It was a scorcher today, plenty of sunblock was needed. In my case a tree
I was in the car park by 8.15am and made my way to the lodge. Dave was finishing his first bacon balm and two more were being handed over the counter  One for me with a cup of coffee to wash it down. Thanks Dave :)
I ventured outside and met up with Matt & Humpalumpa. All the talk was about Phil's record catch yesterday in Beech Lake, 117lb, wow, that is some haul of fish...well done 8)

As i was unloading my gear out of the car, you could hear the fish splashing in the reeds. I had a quick look, the fish were taking advantage of the hot weather and spawning had begun...

Image

Back at the draw everyone wanted the swims at the car park end, who would be the lucky people today...

It wasn't me, i had 23 again  i made my way to number 23, to be met by brian. With his bee keeper hat on :? at least it would give good shade from the sun...

It was the usual script with my peg. Down the inner track along the inside and if all else fails. Go to 'plan C'...

Colin and Fred were to the left...

While, Mark was hiding behind the tree to my right...

The match started and i only waited 30mins for my first fish. Then it was a mad 45 mins of catching Chub & Ide. It didn't seem to last long, then back to normal. I picked up the odd fish through most of the match. While the inside provided me with one lost carp run.
I needed plan C, out came the feeder rod with an hour to go. With a loaded cage feeder and corn on the hook. It was dispatched to the far side. The rod shot off the rest and was soon into carp. I stuck with this method to the end, which gave me half a dozen fish...

Humpalumpa had drawn the first peg (No1) and weighed in a staggering 134lb+ He has broke the record in two successive days. Excellent job phil Image
I managed to weigh a sorry looking 16lb 12oz :(

Mark did well fishing under the tree, next to us for 43lb 8)

Next match, Cleveley Bridge NO! Brekky for me
