The Rock channel, Tope.

Postby starfish » Thu Jul 05, 2018 10:53 am

04/07/2018.

With a 7.6 meter tide tonight at the rock channel it would not give me too long fishing wise
but with all this blistering sun we are having at the moment and crystal clear water
the evening tides seem the better option till some cloud cover comes back are way.

Low water was at 10.25pm and i arrived at 7.30pm 3 hours to go until low water
and as i suspected it was not possible too cross over till 8.00 pm.

Image

i waded across the channel and walked up the bank and i got fishing at 8.15pm
with the first cast i was in and my first baby tope was taken for 2018
weighing in at an amzing 10 oz  :D

Image

After that i was in to something better
and a thornback ray that put up a good fight for its size of 3lb .5oz :D

Image

Another thornback ray was not too far behind that one about the 2lb mark

Image

Then another little rattle on the rod tip produced the second tope pup of the night
i swear i will find its mum one day out there.

Image

Low water had been and gone and 30 mins after the flood it was time to bail quickly
as i was about too pull my last rod back in
the line went slack and a starry smoothhound about 2lb was on. :D

Image

Packed in at 11.00pm and took the 15 min walk back down the bank
i had too walk back to the post to cross back over as the channel was now flooded
and i crossed back over up too my knees still safe but that only allowed 2.45 mins of fishing out there tonight :D

with the small tides at the rock channel it will fill in the channel very quickly without you knowing
so a cut of time of 30 mins after low water is essential on a tide this small.

Image

remember chaps safety first i know most of you all know this but some dont
it is not worth it too risk your life or gear staying out there too long.
a guide to tides are bellow but take into consideration that on shore winds
as they can flood the channel a lot quicker
and also hold water on the bank before you can cross over
if you are unsure then look at the low tide before the low tide you want to fish and time it.

under 7.6m tides bail at low water
7.6m too 7.8m tides bail after 30 mins.
7.9m to 8.1m bail after 40 mins.
8.2m to 8.5m bail after 50 mins
8.6m to 9.0m tides and over you can get an hour
and some times and hour and 10 mins.
but this will all depend on how far you walk out so adjust accordingly

never fish alone if you do not know the mark always fish in pairs if you are unsure then ask someone
this is a guide for times only for the flood and should be treated with caution.

Decent report Paul. Well done on the Ray and Tope and Ray at Perch Rock last night.
Myself and Sean where next to on your right and the left lol
If people concentrated on the REALLY important things in life....... There would be a shortage of fishing rods and reels
